Walking Like Daddy
Someone told me today,
“You walk just like your Dad!” All my life I have looked up to Him and I
remember as a child trying to imitate his walk. I wanted to be just like him!
I began to think about why I walk like Dad. First of all, I’m sure genetics has
determined that I be built and move like Dad. But also there are some traits we
learn by following examples. Perhaps I picked up the way I walk by watching or
following him. It was, to me, a compliment that someone noticed that I walked
like my Dad. I hope they think my spiritual walk is like my Dad. He is my hero
and I have always wanted to be at least half the man he is. His integrity and
attitude have been an excellent pattern for me to follow.
The greatest compliment,
however, would be for someone to say of me, “You walk just like your Heavenly
Dad!” To think that someone would see just a glimmer of Jesus in me and my
actions would be wonderful. First of all, I have been washed in His blood and
therefore I am justified by faith to walk like him. His name is engraved on my
heart therefore I bear in me the power to become like him. I have found in Him
the pattern of Holiness to seek after. The only righteousness and holiness I
can ever hope to attain is His!!
I am reminded of the old
song, “To be like Jesus. To be like Jesus. On earth I long to be like Him. All
through life’s journey from earth to glory. I only ask to be like Him.” I pray
every day for His Passion and Compassion to dwell in me and motivate me to do
His bidding. If anybody asks me why I do what I do, my reply will be “Because I
want to walk just like Daddy!”
